The fate of the 2020 Fair has been decided, the official decision came this morning following a meeting by the Board of Managers of the Minnesota State Agricultural Society who heads the fair

We can't do it. There's just not time

While many people, including the Board Members who head the fair, were holding on to the hope that the fair would happen this summer but unfortunately that will not be the case. According to Bring Me the News, who broke the story, General Manager Jerry Hammer said, "we determined to go ahead with whatever it took to present the fair this year and a lot of that was done basically, hope that things would turn the corner."

We all love the fair and that's exactly why we can't have the fair. This is about doing the right thing for the future of the fair.

This is only the 6th cancellation of the State Fair and the first in 74 years.

  • 1861 - Civil War
  • 1862 - U.S.-Dakota War
  • 1893 - scheduling conflicts with the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago
  • 1945 - World War II travel restrictions
  • 1946 - Polio epidemic

The State Fair now joins 20 other Counties that have already called it quits for their 2020 County Fairs.
