A Minnesota Native Earns Herself a Spot on the USA Olympic Team
I don't know about you, but growing up I only dreamed about being an Olympic athlete. After college... and two surgeries... I had this harsh reality that my body couldn't take it and my only hope of going to Tokyo 2020 was table tennis... and I'm not that good at that either! There are so many amazing athletes out there and a Minnesota Native has earned herself a spot on the USA Olympic Team.
According to WCCO, Kyra Condie from Shoreview is heading to Tokyo 2020 sporting the red, white and blue. Condie is apart of a four-person team competing in the first-ever Sport Climbing event at the Olympics. The Tokyo 2020 website says that competitors will have to put their rock climbing skills to the test on a steep wall with different hand and foot grips. It looks super challenging but fun.
Condie has been training at a local gym in Minneapolis and has competed at both the national and international levels. She has found a lot of success at both levels of competition. She started competing at the age of 11 and had to overcome a challenge that most folks would give up on.
At a young age, she was diagnosed with Scoliosis and had to undergo surgery. In her interview with WCCO, she said her surgery challenged her to stay focused and compete at such a high level.
Well, friend, we wish you the best of luck and can't wait to cheer you on in the very near future.
