Red Wing, MN (KROC AM News)  - The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office has hooked up with a genealogy company in hopes of solving a lingering mystery involving three dead newborn babies.

The sheriff’s office has been stumped in finding any evidence in the deaths, one dating back more than 20 years:

In 1999, a newborn Caucasian baby girl was found by a fisherman, wrapped in a towel and floating in the water near Red Wing.

In 2003, a newborn Caucasian baby boy was found washed ashore on Lake Pepin. These two cases were eventually linked through DNA, meaning they share at least one parent.

In 2007, a newborn baby girl was found in the marina at the Treasure Island Casino. This baby is described as Native American or Hispanic and unrelated to the first two, but the details are eerily the same.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office is now working with Parabon Snapshot DNA Analysis on a genetic genealogy report for the baby girl found in 1999. The company will compare the baby girl’s DNA to databases that contain DNA from other volunteer participants.

The sheriff’s office says genealogy investigations can be very complex and expensive with costs reaching approximately $5,000 per case. The Sheriff’s Office will cover the cost of the first case and is asking the public to consider contributing to a fund to cover the other two cases.

An account has been set up with JusticeDrive to assist in fundraising efforts

The sheriff's office is also asking anyone who knows anything about any of these cases to call 651-385-3155.
