It's time once again for our adoptable pet of the week, this week it is Alma the dog. Alma is a mixed breed and is looking for her forever home. Alma loves people and enjoys getting outside and exercising regularly, so if you have an active lifestyle and like to be outdoors, Alma might just be the dog for you.

Our friend Michaela Tews, a volunteer at the Mower County Humane Society, has more information about Alma.

According to Michaela, "Alma is a young pit bull mix gal" who arrived at the Mower County Humane Society from the Austin city pound. Alma currently weighs around 50 pounds and Mower County Humane Society staff feel that "she is around 2 years old."

While there is still a stigma with Pitbulls in many people's minds, Alma is such a friendly dog! Michaela told us that Alma "is a very friendly girl who loves people and gets very excited when she meets them." Alma will need some regular exercise and will also need some basic training.

Mower County Humane Society staff also noted that "Alma would do best in a home without young kids. She does need a somewhat calm home without a lot of people visiting and coming in and out. An experienced owner who can provide her with calm and consistent positive reinforcement training would be best. Alma does need to be the only pet in the home."

Alma has been vet checked and spayed and her adoption fee is $125.

Also, a reminder that the Mower County Humane Society is NOT currently open to the public, you have to schedule a visit to see an animal after you've had your application approved. You can get more information about that process here.
