AFB Survey Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Down 4 % From Last Year
This is the 35th year the American Farm Bureau conducted a survey of what the cost would be of the Thanksgiving Dinner for 10 people. The shopping list for the survey includes a 16 pound turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, coffee and milk, all in sufficient quantities that would serve a family of 10. The actual cost this year $46.90 down from $48.91 last year.
The American Farm Bureau survey was done with more than 230 surveys with pricing data from all 50 states. Farm Bureau shoppers, all volunteers checked prices online using grocery store apps along with websites. They searched for the best prices but did not take advantage of "special promotional coupons or purchase deals.
This is amazing when you think about it, the cost of the Thanksgiving dinner is lower than last year. Okay, I am "on my soap box" again. All the havoc caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the shut downs and shelter in place orders and farmers rose to the challenge. Plus a lot of others working in agriculture, including all those providing inputs farmers needed, those working in processing plants, transportation, grocery stores and other retailers, the list goes on and on. Salute to all those involved in agriculture and food production!
