Many of us depend on our smartphones more than we'd like to admit these days. I'm not proud of it, but I definitely feel that tinge of anxiety when I'm out in public and realize that my battery is running low. It's pretty thrilling, actually.

Sadly, there are people out there who are more than willing to take advantage of that anxiety in hopes of hacking into your smartphone. NOT COOL. They use a technique called 'juice jacking' where they set up fake charging kiosks in public places that can steal your data. These kiosks will have USB cords left out which can be inserted into multiple smart phones. But most charging stations conceal what's on the other end of those cords, including the power source. Fraudsters can use those chords to collect your data, share your screen, or even infect your phone. Because they're jerks!

So the next time you're in a desperate need of a charge, try making sure you're connecting your phone into a visible power source. It's also a good idea to bring your own chord, or even an external battery pack. Or, you know, you could make the ultra bold move and just turn off your phone. But let's not get TOO crazy.
