It was an exciting game on KFIL last night as the Fillmore Central Falcons defeated the LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals 74-61 in Preston!

The Falcons finished the first half on a 21-9 run to take a 41-32 lead into the break. That run proved to be the biggest turn around of the game as the Cardinals couldn't muster up much offense.

The Falcons played great offense as they were cutting to the basket, moving the ball and getting open opportunities near the rim. When they weren't able to finish, Delton Sauer cleaned up the glass and got some put-back buckets.

The Cardinals started out hot from the field, and were doing a great job of cleaning up the glass on the defensive side of the court early in the game. Zach Hanson was a big part of the offense in the first half, as he hit a couple early 3s and grabbed some big rebounds to give the Cardinals an early 23-20 lead with 6:34 remaining in the first half.

Then, the Falcons were able to kick it up a notch defensively, and started to hit some shots near the rim.

The second half was much of the same for the Falcons, using great play from Sauer and Samuel Peters. Peters was hitting shots from all over the floor; dribbling into the lane and hitting floaters, and also hitting three-point shots from deep.

It was a very high-paced game, as players were fighting for rebounds and playing some stellar full-court defense. LeRoy-Ostrander wanted to put a lot of pressure on the ball, playing man-to-man defense while the Falcons were in a very aggressive 2-3 zone.

Peters led all scorers with 19 points, including hitting five 3s. Sauer added 15 points in the victory.

For the Cardinals, they were led by Trey Hungerholt. Hungerholt was able to use his size to his advantage from the guard position and get layups, as well as knock down a couple of 3s.

Hanson and Riley Olson added ten points each, while Seth Royston added 11 points.

With the win, the Falcons move to 2-1 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 0-2.

We have more high school basketball on the way Friday as the Lanesboro Burros will host the Mabel-Canton Cougars in Girls Basketball!
