The Lewiston-Altura Cardinals defeated the Fillmore Central Falcons 43-34 in Preston Tuesday on KFIL.

It was a fun game, especially in the second half, when the Falcons went on a run to bring the game into single digits with just under six minutes to go, but the Cardinals were able to break the full-court pressure put on by the Falcons, and connect on their free throws late in the contest en route to the victory.

The Cardinals were able to push to an early lead, as they were playing an extended 2-3 zone, that trapped the corners. This forced the Falcons to play much of their offensive game around the perimeter not take many shots near the rim.

The Falcons struggled to score in their first half, recording only nine points as a team, while the Cardinals road the hot-hand of Alex Brown and his eight first-half points to take a 23-9 lead at the break.

The Falcons were able to crank up the pressure in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 25-20, but they just couldn't get enough shots to fall in the second half.

Matt Lutes and Logan Corson hit back-to-back three pointers in the second half to cut the Cardinals lead to single digits, but Bradley Miller hit a couple of 15-foot jumpers to help extend the lead to double digits.

With three minutes remaining, the Falcons went to a full-court press and started to force turnovers, which they did well, but the Falcons were forced to foul, and the Cardinals hit their free throws to ice the game.

The Falcons were impressive in the second half, as they started to hit outside shots and close the gap and really make it an entertaining basketball game. Corson was a a hand-full on the defensive end as he was in the passing lanes, forcing turnovers and gaining extra possessions for the Falcons.

The Cardinals played very well the entire game, they were able to play fast and push the tempo in the first half, and in the second half did a great job of hitting clutch shots and making their free throws.

Brown led the way for the Cardinals with 15 points, while Spencer Speltz and Bradley Miller each added 11.

Corson led the way for the Falcons with nine points, while Riely Means added six and Delton Sauer and Samuel Peters added five each.
