According to a news release from the Minnesota DNR, public tours resumed at Mystery Cave back on July 1st at Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park. According to the DNR, the public tours of Mystery Cave run for one hour, and the tour showcases scenic pools and a variety of cave formations.
The guided, one-hour tours showcase scenic pools and a variety of cave formations, such as stalactites and stalagmites created by the area’s mineral-rich groundwater, accented with dramatic lighting. The 0.75-mile tour is accessible.
The tours start on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and they will run daily through Labor Day.
Now through July 12, the tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Starting on July 13, the Minnesota DNR recommends that people make reservations through the online reservation system. Tickets for the tour cost $15 for adults and $10 for children from 5 to 12 years old. Kids under 5 can enter for free.
It was one of my favorite field trips to take back in elementary school. I was nervous heading into the tour mostly because I was way too afraid of the dark (I have overcome this....somehow, not entirely sure how) but it was an awesome experience, and would do it again in a heartbeat!
