St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the first time in about 6 weeks, state health officials today reported a double-digit daily COVID-19 death toll.

The Minnesota Department of Health says there has been an additional 12 coronavirus related deaths statewide. It marked the first time since July 2nd the daily report on deaths associated with the pandemic has been above 10.

The deaths occurred while Minnesota's COVID-19 positivity rate has been moving slightly lower. After rising above five-percent last week, the rate has been below five-percent three of the last four days. State health officials today reported 470 new COVID-19 cases were detected by the approximately 10,900 tests completed yesterday for a positivity rate of 4.3-percent. 14 of the new cases were in Olmsted County, which had a positivity rate of only 3.4-percent today.

The number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Minnesota has remained fairly steady since the beginning of the month. The total number of hospitalizations reported today was down slightly from yesterday at 335, while the number of ICU beds increased by 7 to 154.
