Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - COVID-19 activity in the Rochester area is again rated as "high" under the parameters set by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A news release issued by Olmsted County Public Health Thursday afternoon indicates new COVID-19-related hospital admissions have increased to 10.3 per 100,000 residents in Olmsted County over the past week. The CDC ratings of COVID activity also incorporate new infections and the percent of staffed inpatient hospital beds occupied by COVID patients.

“While we are concerned about the increase of COVID-19 in Olmsted County, we know we have the tools to reduce the impact of COVID-19 in our community,” Olmsted County Public Health Services (OCPHS) Director Denise Daniels said.

Olmsted County residents can:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public.
  • Get a COVID-19 vaccine and stay up to date with boosters.
  • Get tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Follow the CDC’s quarantine and isolation guidance when ill with COVID-19.

In reporting the increase in COVID activity, apparently due to the growing spread of the Omicron Ba.2 variant, Olmsted County officials did not announce any changes to the county's masking policies. The City of Rochester has also indicated it is not changing its current policies, which encourage but do not require masks to be worn in government facilities.

Officials are strongly recommending that "unvaccinated and immunocompromised individuals where facial coverings in county buildings." Masks are still required for children over the age of two receiving direct patient care services provided by Olmsted County Public Health Services.
