It was a battle of two ranked teams in Section 1AA. The 9th-ranked Chatfield Gophers and 5th-ranked St. Charles Saints were in a defensive slugfest, but the ground game of Chatfield prevailed as the Gopher got the win 22-6 on 103.1 KFIL.

The Gophers held a 7-6 lead at the break and were able to pick together a long drive to start the 3rd quarter that was capped off by a Gage Tuohy touchdown to make it 15-6. The Gophers' defense took control of the game from there.

Chatfield got on the board first when Ried Johnson connected with Chance Backer for a 15-yard score to go up 7-0, but the Saints weren't going anywhere. St. Charles made two big plays with time winding down in the half, that included a 24-yard Drew Maloney run, and on the next play, Maloney connected with Kyler Reps for 25 yards to put the Saints on the three. Logan Wendt scored from three yards out to make it 7-6 at the break.

From there, the Gophers' defense locked down. The Saints couldn't get much going, and Seth Allen added four interceptions to shut down any offensive momentum the Saints created.

Allen had two picks on balls thrown into the Gophers' red zone and made the interceptions changed the game.

Tuohy was the big runner for the Gophers going for 192 yards on 30 carries and added two scores, while Carson Larrabee added 93 yards on fourteen carries. Ried Johnson finished 6 of 16 for 98 yards and one score.

Logan Wendt finished with 49 yards rushing and a score for St. Charles, while Maloney was 3-of-10 for 38 yards in the loss.

The Gophers will take their 6-1 record against Dover-Eyota on Wednesday, while the Saints will take their 6-1 record against Caledonia.
