Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The criminal complaint filed in a Minneapolis cold case murder investigation says a napkin that was discarded in a trash can at a hockey game last month provided investigators with the DNA sample that links 52-year-old Jerry Westrom to the previously unsolved 1993 slaying of a prostitute.

The businessman from Isanti was formally charged today with two counts of second-degree murder stemming from the stabbing death of Jeanie Ann Childs. The criminal complaint says Westrom was initially identified as a suspect when investigators submitted DNA samples to a genealogy website and he was listed as one of two possible matches. They also learned Westrom was living in the Twin Cities when the murder occurred and had a record of law enforcement contacts related to prostitution.

His bail has been set at $1 million.
