Dover-Eyota Dominant Friday
The Dover-Eyota Eagles softball team defeated the Rushford-Peterson Trojans 13-1 in five innings.
As soon as the visiting Eagles got there, their bats were alive. Jordan Meyers was the first to reach and reached third with some good baserunning. She did not need to run too much when Breeana Todd jacked one out to center field for the 2-0 lead. The next four in the order came up with hits and would score. Dover-Eyota batted around in the 1st for a 6-0 lead before the home Trojans came to bat.
Karissa Eide led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk, but was erased on the base-paths on a fielder's choice ground ball, as Breeana Todd worked out of the inning facing just one more than the minimum.
In the top of the second, the Eagles threatened, and would have scored some runs had the ball not been hit so hard. Grace McNallan's hit on the right side hit one of her teammates running the bases to end the inning. Dover-Eyota continued their offensive surge to score 3 in the 3rd to make it a 9-0 game.
R-P had some good contact in their half of the 3rd. Ashley Keenan led off with a base hit, and then with one out, Savannah Skalet lined the ball right back up the middle. The liner, though, was picked off by Todd, who threw back to 1st to double up Keenan and end the inning.
With four Dover-Eyota runs in the 4th and a 13-0 score holding to the bottom of the 5th, R-P needed some scoring. Jasmine Schueler hit a double with one out, stole 3rd, and this time Skalet got the ball to fall for an RBI single. That was all the Trojans could muster, though. Dover-Eyota was victorious 13-1 in 5 innings.
KVGO Player of the Game for Rushford-Peterson was Allison Oian. Allison got a base hit in the 4th and gave the effort to make plays at shortstop.
KVGO Player of the Game for the Dover-Eyota Eagles was Breeana Todd. At the plate, she fell just a double short of the cycle and walked once. Pitching, Todd allowed just one run in those 5 innings of work, while striking out five.
