Faribault Central Park Trees a New Tradition

Stop by Central Park and see all the beautifully decorated trees put up by various Faribault businesses and non-profit organizations.  The Faribault Parks and Recreation Department has put together the Drive By Tree Display because their Hometown Holidays events have been nixed due to scrooge COVID-19.

Out of storm clouds often comes rainbows.  The Faribault Main Street Program Winterfest was cancelled due to the pandemic also.

Program Coordinator Kelly Nygaard says some people have commented through social media in the community how much they will miss the parade and fireworks.

Nygaard is happy the Central Park Tree Decorations have taken off in popularity with local businesses.  She says, "It shows the resiliency of the community."

Nygaard says Main Street will still be involved with a downtown holiday decorating contest where people will be able to vote for their favorite business decorated windows.

I told Dave Pribbenow, Adult Program Supervisor with Faribault Parks and Recreation Department when I stopped by to take a few photos today they've started a new tradition.  He agrees saying businesses are still phoning about sponsoring a tree in the park.

In addition to a fee for the space the businesses provide the trees, decorate and set them up.  Parks and Rec then ties them down and places sponsorship signage in front of each tree.  That's what Pribbenow was doing.

As of my visit Friday morning there were 20 trees.

The coolest thing about this event (in my opinion) is the trees will be donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Faribault so those unable to afford a tree will have one this holiday season.

The trees are uniquely decorated by the businesses and Faribault community organizations.  For example the Faribault Lions Club has a tree.  The Faribault High School STOPS program decorated and sponsored a tree.

Faribault once again steps up to help those in need just as the community provided blankets to Europeans ravaged by the bombs of World War II.

There's plenty of need right here in Faribault.
