All-State Class 3A 113 pound Faribault wrestler JT Hausen had a terrific freshman season for the Falcons who finished ranked #7 in the final Class 3A Guillotine team rankings.

Joining Hausen on the Basher's hosted Faribault Coaches show was Assistant Coach Jacob Staloch.  The Hartland, Mn. native and NRHEG graduate described Hausen has a, "Very solid wrestler as a ninth grader so we've got him for a few more years.  He continues to show improvement and he works hard."

He cites Hausen's "dedication to the sport" as a big reason for his success.  Hausen's aggressiveness on the mat is another reason why Staloch believes he has had so much success.

Before the season started the Falcons had no idea they would grab a share of the Big Nine Conference title.  Loaded with youth they found four wrestlers to start each match for the most part with wins. Usually bonus points also.

Hausen finished his personal season with a record of 23-6.  The team lost just two matches all year.  They tied with Northfield and Owatonna for the Big Nine Championship.

Hausen described the MSHSL State Tournament at St. Michael-Albertville High School as, "Nerve-racking."  Hausen likes to, "Visualize my matches" in an effort to mentally prepare and listens to different kinds of music depending upon what mood he is in.

Hausen agreed with Coach Staloch's assessment of an "aggressive" wrestler saying, "Over the years I've gotten more and more confident."

In the fall Hausen played football and this spring he is going out for track for the first time.  He wants to try the Pole Vault because, "It looks like fun"

I asked Hausen what he enjoys about wrestling where the workouts can be grueling.  "Being with the guys I guess.  It's fun pushing each other to get better in the wrestling room.

Hausen was not shocked to have such a successful season telling us, "I thought if I go out and wrestle with confidence and do what I do I guess, I'll be good."

He did receive a certificate for being All-State at 113 pounds in Class 3A.  Hausen says another key to their success is their chemistry.  Everybody gets along well.

He enjoys riding a jet ski on Wells Lake in his spare time.
