Fatal Faribault Crash Claims Life Of 83-Year-Old Woman
On Monday afternoon Faribault police responded to a call involving an injured pedestrian in the parking lot outside District One Hospital and the Allina Health Faribault Clinic pharmacy.
The initial 9-1-1 caller reported that a woman was on the ground and bleeding from her head and face. Responding Faribault Police Officers found an 83-year-old woman, later identified, in a media release by Chief Andy Bohlen, as Darlene Ulrich. Ulrich was transported to District One Hospital and later to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Ulrich later died as a result of her injuries.
The initial police investigation revealed a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by a 73-year-old woman, had been backing out of a parking stall when it struck Ulrich and continued backing until striking another vehicle. Several witnesses to the crash described the PT Cruiser as backing at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Lana Good of Faribault. Neither Good, her passenger, nor the driver of the vehicle which was struck, were injured.
Responding to the scene were the Faribault Fire Department, North Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The Faribault Police Department is being assisted with reconstruction by the Minnesota State Patrol. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this time. When the investigation is concluded, all reports will be forwarded to the Rice County Attorney to review and consider criminal charges.
In a media release, Faribault Police Chief Bohlen stated, “In a time of year that is supposed to be so festive, our collective hearts go out to both families involved in this terrible incident. The department will work diligently to determine all the factors that contributed to her death”.
