Two Fillmore County Deputies stopped for a quick picture Saturday afternoon on the final day of National Police Week.

The deputies just couldn't resist taking a selfie and then taking the time to say 'Thank You' to the great citizens of Fillmore County and their support on the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page. .

National Police Week wrapped up on Saturday, May 15th, and this week is National EMS Week. It is a week to show our appreciation for those in our community who serve and protect us. Whether it is sheriff deputies, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, whoever. We truly thank them and recognize them for what they do for our community.

How National EMS Week Got Its Start

Back in 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrated EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. This year's theme is: This Is EMS: Caring for Our Communities.

Many people who work in the EMS field spend hours on weekends, birthdays, and holidays away from their family doing their best to sometimes help a complete stranger. It takes a special person with the right attidute to do that, and I want to take this moment to say Thank You.

Honoring Fallen Officers During Peace Officer's Memorial Day

Peace Officer's Memorial Day was on Saturday, May 15th, and you may have heard bagpipes being played in yours or a surrounding community. This was in honor of fallen law enforcement officers. When the clock struck midnight on Saturday morning, former Rochester Police Segarent Steve Franks played three verses of Amazing Grace at the Government Center in Rochester. Below is a video from the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office of the ceremony.
