Food-Drive to Build Rochester Community Food Wall April 24th
The Rochester Salvation Army has the only Downtown Rochester food shelf and they fill a very important role and that's why Evangel United Methodist Church is trying to build a Food Wall by hosting a food drive is coming up April 24th.
When it's not the Season of Covid, the Rochester Salvation Army Food Shelf serves 550 households and is open twice a month to help families during the summer. But, says Major Lisa Mueller, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army,
“...the need is great, and having enough food to be able to allow people to come to us for groceries once a week would be an incredible blessing."
The goal for this distribution is to collect enough food to make it possible for their food shelf to open itself up to families in need once a week through the summer months when kids are home from school.
Here's what you need to know to help...
Drop off donations of nonperishable food
Then, "...drive through our fun set up of live music, food mascots, food trucks, and goodie bags as they leave."
The food most needed is...
- Peanut butter
- Canned Tuna
- Boxes of mac’n cheese or Hamburger Helper
- Baking supplies (like flour and sugar)
- Donations must be unopened and NOT expired.
