La Crosse, WI (KROC-AM News) - The latest forecasting models are suggesting a potent winter storm that’s headed toward Minnesota may deliver it’s heaviest punches in areas a bit to the west and north of Rochester.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from 6 PM Thursday through 6 PM Friday for areas of south-central, southeastern, and east-central Minnesota because of the possibility of up to a foot of slushy snow.

As it stands now, the Rochester area and other areas in the far southeastern corner of the state are not included in the watch. The current forecasting models for this region have the National Weather Service predicting areas north of I-90 could see some icing and 4-7 inches of snow, while areas to the south could see more rain and 1-4 inches of snow from Thursday night through Friday.

Forecasters caution the track of the storm system remains uncertain and the heaviest snow band could shift considerably by the time the storm arrives.
