Walnut Grove, MN (KROC AM News) - A former police chief in southwest Minnesota has been sentenced to jail for trying to hire an underage girl to have sex.

Michael Zeug was police chief of the town of Walnut Grove when he was caught last year in an undercover operation aimed at men who were trying to hire underage prostitutes.

The 46-year-old Zeug pleaded guilty in July to a felony prostitution count involving the hiring of a minor in July. He was sentenced Friday to a staggered 90-day jail sentence that will be served 30 days at a time this year and the following two years. He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 “prostitution assessment.” The judge also ordered Zeug to undergo a psychological sexual evaluation and sex offender treatment. He is also banned from using the internet during his 2 years of probation without approval.

Zeug was suspended from his job after he was charged but resigned in May.
