Former Rochester Bookkeeper Sent to Prison For Huge Embezzlement

Minneapolis, MN (KROC AM News) - A Kenyon woman was sentenced to nine years in prison and ordered to pay over $1 million in restitution for embezzling money from a Rochester construction company and a group that operates eight restaurants in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Court records indicate 59-year-old Kimberly Peterson-Janovec used her management position within the restaurant ownership group to steal funds between 2014 and 2019.

Court documents say the company discovered Peterson-Janovec's fraud and fired her. She then lied about her past experience to land a bookkeeping job in 2020 with a Rochester company where she stole again and committed tax crimes.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Peterson-Janovec was convicted of fraud in 1998 when she embezzled $950,000 from another employer.

Peterson-Janovec will also serve three years of supervised release upon completion of her prison sentence.
