It's time for another look at the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office weekly highlights (published regularly on their Facebook page). I share them here with my thoughts ON the highlights (my thoughts in red)! And, along the way, maybe we all learn something about how hard and sometimes weird the day of Sheriff's Deputy can be.

Red Wing- A complaint about male who was passed out in a boat and another male who urinated in public then passed out under a tree led Deputies to locating the suspects and boat.

The boat operator was attempting to tie his boat off to a barge while telling the Deputy that it was a dock. No words. JR

Both males admitted to driving the boat and both were arrested for BWI.

Dennison- A citation was issued to a driver for going 61 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.
Dennison- A citation was issued to a driver for going 60 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.
Dennison- A citation was issued to a driver for going 67 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.
Something tells me there's a situation a-brewin' in Dennison. Is it the denizens of Dennison or some other ne'er-do-wells doing dough-headed and dangerous driving? - JR

Domestics/ Disturbance/Suspicious/Other

  • Pine Island- Deputies responded to a physical domestic. *If you are a victim of domestic violence, please contact us. We can help. NOBODY deserves to be a victim.

  • Welch- Deputies responded to a call in which the reporting party said there was a female being trafficked by 3 males on the river. All parties were located and the call was determined to be unfounded. There's been confusion the past few years about what trafficking is and isn't.  Please click here and make sure you have the latest info. JR

  • Welch TWP- Theft of a catalytic convertor.
  • Dennison- Report of theft of gas from vehicles.
  • Welch TWP- Report of theft of mail. How dough-headed do you need to take someone's mail? That's a Federal crime! JR

Fraud:

  • Warsaw TWP- Fraud was reported when someone received a check for puppies they were selling. The suspect added money to the check and instructed the victim to use the extra money to pay for an animal transport company. After the victim sent the money to the transport company, he was told by his bank that the check was fake.

  • Welch TWP- A vehicle was stopped for not having an operational license plate light. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested.
  • Leon TWP- A driving complaint about a vehicle that was swerving and all over the road led Deputies to locating the vehicle. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested.

Traffic Stops:

  • Zumbrota TWP- A citation was issued to a driver for going 79 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.
  • HWY 52- Citations were given to the driver for going 75-92 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.
  • Pine Island TWP- A Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for displaying expired tabs. The driver attempted to flee but after a few miles, the vehicle had mechanical issues and the driver was forced to stop. He was arrested. If the clouds didn't part, and a giant sad trombone didn't appear to play, "Wah wah wahhh" then someone missed a perfect opportunity. JR
  • Leon TWP- A citation was issued to a driver for a hands-free violation and driving after revocation. The driver attempted to give a false name but the Deputy caught on pretty quick and was able to identify the driver since he is the registered owner of the vehicle. Dough heads gonna dough head. JR
