It's a fight we have in our house every year.

I have a love/hate relationship with the month of October.

It's my favorite month of the year because of all the sports on TV, and it's finally getting cool enough outside where I don't mind doing yard-work again because I'm not constantly sweating through my clothes. It's actually something I enjoy doing because I love getting some fresh air and my daughter loves to watch me work outside.

But speaking of the weather, that's also why I despise October because that's when mother nature truly can't decide on whether to hang on to those remaining summer temperatures or go head-first into the early stages of winter.

My wife and I have lived together for five of the six years we've known each other and I swear every time the temps drop below 50 degrees outside she immediately states "It's time to crank up the heat!"

I'm in the camp where if it dips into the low 40's or flirts with below freezing outside, then it's acceptable to finally turn it on otherwise we'll survive just fine. I mean, if you're that cold then put on another layer or two and hide under a blanket. We've got plenty of those around the house!

Of course, having a young kid in the house has softened my stubborn stance on the matter in recent years, but now the argument has shifted to how warm we set the thermostat at once I finally allow it to be turned on.

I'm telling ya, the fun never ends at my house...

So how cold does it have to get outside before you finally submit to mother nature and turn on the furnace for the first time?

Normally my weekends are filled with raking leaves and last-minute projects outdoors, but this entire month we’ve dealt with rain showers that have mucked up any plans to get anything accomplished outside.

So what gives? Thankfully, I have any answer for you.
