How Yoga Can Help Minnesota Kids During the Pandemic
Yoga is a great thing to do when you're stressed, as daily exercise, when you wake up, before you go to bed, really any time is a good time to do yoga! Right now especially, during a pandemic, is a good time to give yoga a try for yourself and for your kids. Yoga can really help kids through this pandemic.
I don't have kids so I haven't had to deal with homeschooling, trying to explain what exactly is going on in the world, etc. but I'm sure it's hard for kids to fully understand what's going on. All of this that's going on can be very stressful for them! That's where yoga comes in.
Alexa Simon is a yoga teacher and founder of Minnesota Kid's Yoga Co. She spoke with KARE 11 recently about the benefits of kid yoga during this pandemic. Alexa said, "'Yoga at home is a great way to bond as a family. Yoga doesn’t have to be so serious; it can be fun and silly, which helps ease stress built-up from COVID.'"
You can definitely find yoga videos online but you don't even need that or any extensive knowledge of yoga in order to do some yoga with your kids at home. You just need to know a few poses and go from there. Make up names for poses, make it fun! Alexa recommends utilizing yoga with your kids when they're "'anxious or bored, like in the morning, after schoolwork, or at bedtime.'"
If you haven't figured out by reading this post, I'm an advocate for yoga! I think it's very helpful for easing stress and anxiety but it's also a good way to start and/or end your day. If you start your day with yoga it helps you wake up and focus on the day ahead. Ending your day with yoga can really help with falling asleep. A YouTube channel I would recommend is Yoga with Adriene. I think she has the most popular yoga channel on YouTube, and she's very good!
