Des Moines, IA (KROC-AM News) - The company that operates some of the largest grocery stores in the region is investigating a data breach involving its payment processing systems.

Iowa-based Hy-Vee says it recently detected unauthorized activity on some of its payment processing systems and immediately launched an investigation with the assistance of leading cybersecurity firms. The company says it also notified federal law enforcement agencies and payment card networks.

Hy-Vee officials say they believe their actions have stopped the unauthorized activity. The investigation is focused on the company's fuel pumps, drive-through coffee shops, and restaurants, which use different point-of-sale systems than the grocery stores, drug stores, and inside Hy-Vee convenience stores.

It is unclear how many customers may have been affected by the data breach. Hy-Vee officials say they will provide notification to their customers as they learn more information about the specific time frames and locations that may have been involved. They note it is always advisable to closely monitor your payment card statements for any unauthorized activity and to ed immediately report anything suspicious using the contact information that is printed on the payment card.
