Tragic Accidental Shooting Claims Life of 13-Year-Old Minnesota Boy

Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow)-- A tragic shooting early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy in North Minneapolis.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the boy was killed in what appears to be an accidental shooting by a 14-year-old friend.

Officers from the 4th Precinct responded around 1:30 a.m. to a residence on the 2400 block of Ferrant Place, where they found the 13-year-old with a gunshot wound.

Despite their immediate efforts to save him, the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two adult women and other juveniles were also present but were unharmed.

Initial reports suggest that the 14-year-old boy was handling a firearm when it accidentally discharged, striking his friend.

Authorities state that both boys were known to the Minneapolis Police Department but have not disclosed additional information about previous interactions.

Following the incident, the 14-year-old was taken into custody and booked at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

Chief O’Hara addressed the tragedy, expressing deep sympathy for the families involved and urging the community to secure firearms diligently:

The death of a child is always incredibly troubling and tragic. Our investigators will work diligently to answer the many questions we have.
