Every year, Minnesotans lose over $30 million to fraudulent schemes ranging from fake prize promotions to bogus car sales.
This brings us to the latest scam alert in Minnesota, this one from the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office warning residents about a new and elaborate scam that has surfaced in the Southeast Minnesota area.
Fake Car Dealership Scam Pops Up in Rochester / Olmsted County
The OCSO posted a warning to their Facebook page about a new scam involving a fake car dealership website.
The fraudulent site, operating under the name "Scott Auto," is tricking people into sending money for vehicles that don’t exist. The listed address, 660 50th St SE in Rochester, is actually Olmsted County property behind Fleet Farm, not a legitimate dealership.
The scammers have created a sophisticated website, complete with a phone number and email contact. They even claim to offer vehicle delivery, but officials warn this is part of the deception. The scammers will no doubt request down payments or deposits upfront before disappearing with the victims' money.
WARNING: New Real Estate Scam Targets Minnesota Homeowners
The sheriff's office urges caution when purchasing vehicles or property. Always verify the legitimacy of the seller and never send money unless you have seen the product in person. Scammers often create fake urgency, so don't be pressured into making quick decisions.
If you suspect you’ve encountered this scam or have any concerns, contact local law enforcement immediately.
