According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, officers responded to the intersection of 14th Street and Nicollet Avenue around 12:15 a.m. after gunfire was detected by the city’s ShotSpotter system. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. The second man was treated at the scene, where officers attempted lifesaving measures, including CPR. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
“A family’s life has been forever changed by this unacceptable act of violence,” Chief O’Hara said in a statement. “As we enter the summer months, I urge everyone to find peaceful ways to resolve conflict. Every act of violence leaves a lasting impact—not just on those directly involved, but on our entire community.”

Preliminary details suggest a gathering was taking place at the intersection prior to the gunfire. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, and no arrests have been announced.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity of the deceased, along with the official cause and manner of death.
