Feds: Minnesota Man Accused of Being Serial Kidnapper and Rapist
St. Paul, MN (MinnesotaNow) - Federal authorities have announced charges against a Minnesota man they describe as a serial kidnapper and rapist.
The Office of the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota says 28-year-old Abdimahat Bille Mohamed is accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 2017 and a woman in September of this year. The Minneapolis man is charged with federal counts of kidnapping and kidnapping a minor. The statement says that if Mohamed is convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years and the possibility of life in prison.
Teen, Multiple Women Identified as Victims
The federal criminal complaint alleges Mohamed and two others kidnapped and raped the 15-year-old victim in December 2017 in St. Paul. The victim told investigators she was forced to perform sexual acts while being threatened with a gun.
The other kidnapping charge is connected to a sexual assault reported by a woman in September. Court documents say Mohamed kidnapped her in Mankato and drove her to Bloomington, where he allegedly kept her at a hotel and sexually assaulted her for nearly a week before she was able to escape.
Complaint Details Years of Assaults Across Twin Cities
According to federal prosecutors, investigators have also linked Mohamed to sexual assaults involving several other women in the Twin Cities and are continuing to look for possible additional victims. In addition to the sexual assault allegations tied to the federal charges, the Office of the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota alleges he sexually assaulted a woman in Roseville in February 2018, kidnapped and raped an adult woman in St. Paul in May 2018, and sexually assaulted another adult woman in Minneapolis in May of last year. According to the news release, DNA evidence linked Mohamed to all of the attacks.
“Given the history of the state prosecution of Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, my office will aggressively prosecute this serial rapist,” said U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.

Prior Convictions Noted in Court Records
According to Minnesota court records, Mohamed was convicted of criminal sexual conduct involving a juvenile earlier this year and was sentenced to five years on probation. In another case, Mohamed served a year in jail last year after being convicted of a felony criminal sexual conduct charge.
