Minnesota Man Fails to Show for Sentencing in Fatal Police Chase
A St. Paul, MN (MinnesotaNow) - An arrest warrant has been issued for a Minnesota man who killed another man while fleeing from police.
Man fails to appear for sentencing
30-year-old Lorenzo Leontay Washington was scheduled to be sentenced today for his conviction on a charge of fleeing police resulting in death, but he failed to show up in court. The Minneapolis man entered a guilty plea to the charge in March and was allowed to remain free until his sentencing on $300,000 bond.
The conviction carries a presumptive prison sentence with a maximum punishment of 40 years behind bars.

Conviction stems from fatal police chase
According to court documents, the Washington was attempting to elude state troopers when he lost control of his car, which then jumped the curb and entered the parking lot of a St. Paul church. The out-of-control car then smashed into a parked vehicle. A 36-year-old St. Paul man was inside the parked vehicle and suffered fatal injuries when he was ejected during the crash.
Suspect allegedly reached 90 mph before crash
The criminal complaint against Washington states that a Ramsey County deputy estimated he was traveling at approximately 90 mph before the deadly crash, which occurred in the late morning of December 8, 2024, after a state trooper attempted to pull him over for speeding. Following the crash, Washington attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended nearby.
