Quick Action Saves Teen From Drowning Tragedy at Minnesota Lake
Menahga, MN (MinnesotaNow)-- A potential tragedy was averted at a lake in North Central Minnesota this week thanks to the swift actions of bystanders and first responders.
On Sunday, August 11th, the Wadena County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a possible drowning at Spirit Lake near Menahga at approximately 3 p.m, according to a press release.
The incident occurred at Menahga City Beach, where a 19-year-old male had been swimming before he went under the water and failed to resurface for about two minutes.
Emergency services, including the Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Menahga Police Department, Menahga First Responders, and Astera Ambulance, quickly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, responders learned that the young man had been pulled from the water by good Samaritans who were present at the beach.
CPR was immediately administered, and within a short time, the male began breathing on his own.
The individual was then transported by ambulance to Essentia Health in Park Rapids for further medical evaluation. His current condition has not been released, but the prompt response of everyone involved is credited with saving his life.
