Cheapism has recently named the coziest restaurant in Minnesota, a 50-year-old award-winning fine dining establishment in a historic building. This place oozes coziness.

First opened in 1975, the restaurant began as a simple bar with no kitchen relying on local caterers to provide food. Over the years, it has transformed into a fine dining destination known for hosting everything from romantic marriage proposals to high-stakes business meetings.

W.A. Frost and Co. Named Coziest Restaurant in Minnesota

Located in the 136-year-old Dacotah building in St. Paul's historic Cathedral Hill district, W.A. Frost and Co. is about as authentically cozy as they come.

According to their website, along with plenty of originals, the restaurant is also “full of architectural salvage” which means they repurposed some fixtures and materials from other old buildings.

For example, the back bar came from a burned-out building in Superior, WI, and the marble tables used to be the walls of the old Northwestern Bank building in Superior.

What a great, sustainable way to preserve history and reuse good materials, not to mention the unique charm it adds to the restaurant's inviting ambiance.

Cheapism perfectly captures the essence of W.A. Frost and Co., describing it as "an exquisite dilemma" when choosing between dining inside or out:

W.A. Frost and Co. presents an exquisite dilemma: Enjoy the beautiful patio, or the equally lovely interior? Either way, you can't go wrong at this turn-of-the-century establishment with brick walls, tin ceilings, half-moon windows, and grand fireplaces. Outside, massive trees, climbing vines, and a stone fire pit make al fresco dining equally appealing. “

What's on the Menu at W.A. Frost and Co, the Coziest Restaurant in Minnesota?

Ok, so we've established the cozy vibes are off the charts at W.A. Frost and Co., but no cozy dining experience is complete without an exceptional menu to match the ambiance.

Looking at their dinner menu, I see a mix of classic comfort dishes like meatloaf and pot pie, along with some fancier locally inspired cuisine. Prices range from $9 for a cup of Squash Bisque to $45 for a Maple Mustard Salmon. The steak on the menu is listed as "market price." They also have a few pasta dishes on the dinner menu like Rigatoni and Risotto.

W.A. Frost also serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10a-2p with dishes like Lemon-Ricotta Pancakes, Croissant French Toast, Eggs Benedict, Shrimp & Grits, and a Rancheros Tostada.

Also, if you're looking for a perfectly cozy spot to celebrate Valentine's Day, W.A. Frost and Co. is offering a 5-course Valentine's dinner for two for $220 ($110 per person) on Friday, February 14th.
