Community Responds In Powerful Way After Flag Is Stolen

A large American flag was donated by local veterans to celebrate America's 250th birthday. Sadly, it was discovered that the flag had been stolen.

The flag was hung on the Iron Bridge in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Given its large size and prominent location, it could be seen from multiple vantage points in the community. The flag was donated by the local American Legion Post 49. The Mayor of Bayfield, Lyn Cornelius, said in a post on social media that the theft left her absolutely sickened.

This flag was generously donated by our local American Legion—by individuals who served under this flag and risked their lives for our country. To see it treated with such disrespect is incredibly disheartening.

 

They ask that anyone who has information about the stolen flag contact the Bayfield Police Department.

The community came together, not letting the theft dampen its spirit. Many flags were donated to hang and fly from the Iron Bridge in Bayfield over the weekend.

Any of the flags not claimed will be used for future city events. While someone tried to ruin the 4th of July, the community came together to honor America and our 250th Independence Day.
