Help Needed For Duluth Boy Wounded In Horrific Accident

Growing up is a time to go to school, hang with your friends, and have fun. Getting involved in school activities only adds to the experience.

There are proven benefits, whether kids go out for sports, theater, music, robotics, or any other extracurricular activity.

Studies have shown that participating in extracurricular activities helps students with things like social skills, academic performance, health, stress relief, time management, and more.

Any activity indeed comes with some risk, particularly in sports where sprains, strains, and other injuries can occur. However, no family should have to go through what a young basketball player is currently going through in Duluth.

8th Grader Suffers Traumatic Injuries While At Basketball Practice

Word spread through social media about Owen Ness, a Duluth East 8th grader who suffered traumatic injuries while at basketball practice.

According to the fundraising page established for him and his family, Owen was at basketball practice when he ended up smashing into a cinder block wall while running at full speed.

His face and wrists took the bulk of the brunt impact, leaving him with the following injuries:

Buckle fractures to both wrists. This type of broken bone occurs when a bone bulges out instead of breaking.
An orbital blowout fracture to his left eye socket
3 layers of stitches to his mouth
A significant concussion.

An ambulance took Owen from practice to the emergency room and, thankfully, he is expected to make a full recovery.

However, there will be tremendous expenses from the incident and the ongoing reconstruction process and the family could use help.

A GoFundMe page was set up for Owen by Robin Edmiston, to raise at least $20,000 to help Owen and his family.

As of the afternoon of November 5, there was just under $15,000 raised.
