The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, and other authorities are asking the public's assistance in a case where a vehicle was struck by a bullet last Friday.

It happened around 11:45 on Friday morning between County Road 2 SE and Clifford Lake Rd (mile markers 112-114). The vehicle was traveling east when the bullet entered the driver's side rear door of the vehicle. One occupant of the vehicle sustained a minor injury.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's assistance in locating any individuals who may have been hunting or shooting on the north side of the interstate between 11:00 am and 11:45 am.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is assisting in the investigation.

The Minnesota firearm deer season began on November 8th and runs until November 23rd. It is illegal to discharge a firearm across a highway.

The hunting area is in a shotgun-only zone, part of the state. Rifles are currently not permitted for hunting in these areas. The Douglas County Sheriff's office did not indicate the suspected caliber of the bullet.

The shotgun zone will be eliminated for the 2026 season. When the new law goes into effect, hunters will be allowed to use legal rifles or shotguns throughout the state during the deer hunting season. Counties can formally pass an ordinance restricting the use of rifles in their county.
