Another Store Is Closing Inside The Miller Hill Mall
It seems like a lot of brick and mortar retail stores are closing. It's a sign of the times, as many prefer to buy things online to save time and energy. Another major company has declared bankruptcy and we will feel the impacts in Duluth.
Another Business Declares Bankruptcy
rue21 announced that they would be closing all 540 of their store locations in the near future. The company filed for bankruptcy on Thursday (May 2nd) and has been in business for half a century.
The signs were all there. According to reports, the chain had about 1,200 locations a few years ago. Today, there are about half left and not for long.
How Does This Impact Duluth?
Sadly, since the brand is shuttering all of their remaining locations, that likely includes the store in the Miller Hill Mall. rue21 is located between Beyond The Barn and Sew With Me. It can be found closest to the JC Penney exit.

There has been no official statement from Miller Hill Mall staff just yet and there is no word on what will replace the store. rue21 sells teenage apparel and accessories. There is a lot of potential about what could go into the store!
What Happened + What's Next?
Reports also say that rue21's bankruptcy filing can be attributed to increased competition in the industry, with popular places like Shein taking over the teenage landscape. The store's retail locations have been underperforming Inflation is also cited as a reason for the closure.

The stores will close within the next four to six weeks. There will be 'going out of business' sales at all locations so you can stock up on any items your teen may want or need before they close for good.
