I woke up today and saw the news that some people didn't have cell service on multiple carriers. It thought for sure this must be an East Coast thing and not something happening here in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Then I looked down and saw SOS where many bars normally are. It sent me a chill.

Normally I wouldn't think too much about it, but in this scary modern-day world we live in, I started to speculate. Was this some cyber attack? There isn't an update at this time as to what has caused the outage, but a cyber attack is a possibility.

If you've been unfortunate enough to be part of a cyber attack, it is crippling. When communication breaks down, businesses lose millions of dollars. Ransomware has become a big thing, and companies are actually paying the bad actors in a lot of cases because it's cheaper than losing millions and millions of dollars.

The reason that I was starting to worry is because I recently saw an Obama-produced movie on Netflix. 'Leave The World Behind' stars Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Kevin Bacon, and others. It starts out feeling like an apocalypse flick. Is it zombies, vampires, or nuclear war? What's going on here? The scariest thing about the movie is it really could likely happen.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

It's not until later in the movie that you start to get some answers as to what is really going on. You never fully understand what the specifics are, but it points to the country being attacked by one or more adversaries with cyber attacks. They basically shut down the entire country.

With the communication breakdown, and the divided state our country is in, people turn on each other. America is the world's superpower. How do you beat us? From taking us apart from the inside. You turn people against each other by false information, deepfakes, AI images, and feeding into people's skewed beliefs.

Algorithms show you what you already know in your feed, and solidify your own views on cultural issues. It's something President Obama has publicly spoken about before. That's why he had a hand in this movie.
