One Minnesota water park is working with state officials to determine the source of a parasite that caused a "diarrheal illness" to guests.

The Minnesota Department of Health says the guests got the illness that can cause symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps and pains, and a fever from Cryptosporidiosis, which is spread from the stool of an infected person.

The Great Wolf Lodge in Bloomington tells KSTP-TV that in mid-June, a "small number" of guests at the hotel/water park were made sick by the parasite, but the Minnesota Department of Health would like to hear from anyone that stayed there in recent weeks.

Guests of the Great Wolf Lodge are being asked to fill out a quick survey regarding the incident, they want to hear from all guests who swam, regardless if they got sick or not.

After the illnesses were reported, Great Wolf Lodge said that the park water was hyper-chlorinated or shocked to make the park safe for quests again.

Officials are trying to use the survey and other investigative means to help pinpoint the source of the illness and to help provide to insight to help prevent it from happening in the future.

The Minnesota Department of Health is saying that participation in the investigation is completely voluntary and there is no penalty for not participating, but assisting them can help prevent others from getting sick in the future.
