A Massive 12-Point Buck Was Just Harvested In Minnesota
2024's deer archery season in Minnesota runs from September 14th to December 31st. A massive 12-point buck was just recently harvested in Southeastern Minnesota, and Outdoor Life magazine just published the story of the hunt, along with photos.
Randy Baker lives in Southeastern Minnesota and has property he has been managing for deer. Baker told the magazine that he had recently spotted two big bucks on the property to harvest this year.
Baker and a friend went out one morning in search of one of the big bucks, and it just so happens that a camera was brought along for the pair to shoot the hunt for an episode of Driven Hunter.
As Becker's partner pulled back the window on the blind, he sighted the buck, that stood broadside to the blind, and released. You can see the shot, in slow motion above!
When the buck was finally tracked down, about 70 yards away, the rack came out to a 12-point with a score of 175"! WOW!
Outdoor Life wrote that "Baker says he doesn’t plan to enter the buck into any record books, but he will have it mounted as he waits for next season to roll around."
The largest deer on record being taken in Minnesota was "a 268.5-in buck killed by Mitch Vakoch in Norman County in 1974." You can learn more about that buck, and a possible new record holder from Game and Fish here.
So far this year in Minnesota, according to the Department of Natural Resources website as of October 24th there have been 18,117 deer harvested across the state. Roughly 47% of those deer taken have been does, with 36% being bucks.
