There are not many stores in Central Minnesota that feel as familiar and comforting as Hennen Furniture. Anyone who has lived in this area for a while knows exactly what I mean. For years, it has been the place where families go when they need a new sofa, a dining set for their first home, or a bedroom makeover.

It is the kind of store where you recognize the faces behind the counter, and you know you will get honest answers when you have questions. So when I learned that Hennen Furniture is being acquired by HOM Furniture beginning on the first day of the new year, it immediately felt like a major moment for our community.

A NEW FUTURE FOR HENNEN FURNITURE

HOM Furniture announced in a news release that it will officially take over Hennen Furniture, including the entire two hundred eighteen thousand square foot building in St. Cloud. Hennen Furniture has been a part of Central Minnesota since the late 1960s, when Bob Hennen opened a small store near the Crossroads Shopping Center. What started as a little local shop slowly turned into one of the most trusted places to buy furniture in our region. The Hennen family built its reputation on honesty, kindness, and a belief in treating customers like neighbors. That spirit has never changed.

KEEPING THE HENNEN NAME

When I read that HOM Furniture plans to keep the Hennen name and continue operating it as its own brand, it was honestly a relief. HOM Furniture is a very large retailer in the Upper Midwest with almost nine hundred employees across several states, but it also has a history of respecting local identity. Their president, Carl Nyberg, said this partnership feels similar to when HOM acquired Gabberts years ago. They understand that certain names matter deeply to the people who shop there. Hennen Furniture is more than a business. It is a landmark for families who have been walking through those doors for almost sixty years.

HOM FURNITURE COMMITTED TO PROTECTING HENNIN'S LEGACY

HOM has an enormous amount of buying power as well as a strong distribution network. That means more variety, more inventory, and possibly better prices. At the same time, HOM says it is committed to protecting the customer relationships that Hennen Furniture has spent decades building. If they truly follow through, we may see the best of both worlds. The heart and friendliness of a hometown store, combined with the resources of a major retailer.

HOPEFUL FOR HENNEN FURNITURE'S FUTURE

As someone who has wandered through Hennen Furniture many times, dreaming about new living room ideas or imagining the perfect Christmas dining table, I cannot help but feel hopeful. Change can be emotional when a business feels like part of our daily life, but it can also be a chance for even better things to come.

Hennen Furniture has always been a place where Central Minnesota families feel at home. With HOM Furniture stepping in and promising to honor that legacy, I am looking forward to seeing what this next chapter brings for all of us who love shopping local and supporting the businesses that make our community feel connected.
