Update: Southeast Minnesota Deputy Hospitalized After Responding to Hazardous Leak Near Hayfield
Hayfield, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was hospitalized after responding to a hazardous material leak near Hayfield Wednesday night.

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose said Thursday the deputy was the first person to arrive at the scene.
Dodge County dispatch received a report of Anhydrous fumes crossing Hwy. 56 next to the Central Farm Service Coop at at 75530 Hwy. 56, which is between Hayfield and the Dodge-Mower County line shortly before 7:20 p.m.
Emergency Crews Work Through the Night to Stop Hazardous Leak Near Hayfield
An investigation at the scene indicated a bulk storage tank was leaking the hazardous material. First responders began conducting welfare checks at nearby residences due to the size of the leak and Hwy. 56 was shut down.
The Olmsted County Hazmat Team arrived at the scene around midnight and crews worked throughout the night to stop the leak and clear the scene, Rose said.
Hwy. 56 reopened shortly before 5:00 Thursday morning.
Dodge County Deputy Transported to ER After Anhydrous Exposure
Rose says the first deputy to arrive at the scene reported not feeling well. An ambulance crew evaluated the deputy then transported him to the St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room in Rochester.
The deputy was treated for Anhydrous exposure and was released around 4:00 Thursday morning. Rose reported the deputy is at home and doing well.
No other injuries were reported. The cause of the leak has not yet been determined, Rose says.
