BCA Confirms ID of Murder Suspect Killed by St. Paul Police
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension this afternoon confirmed the identity of the man killed in an officer involved shooting in St. Paul on Saturday.
The state law enforcement agency says the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 36-year-old Mychel Allan Stowers. The report indicates he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The BCA also listed the names of the officers involved in the fatal incident. St. Paul Police Officer Eric Jaworski fired his rifle and Officer Matthew Foy discharged his handgun. Both men have 10 years of law enforcement experience.
A news release says Stower's was being sought in connection with a St. Paul homicide investigation. St. Paul police say he was suspected of murdering his pregnant ex-wife and then shooting another man during a carjacking near the murder scene last month.
According to the BCA's preliminary investigation of Saturday's shooting, St. Paul police received an anonymous tip that Stowers was at a business, and after he left on a bicycle, multiple squad cars converged on him as he reached the intersection of Watson Avenue and Bay Street. The location is in a mainly residential area several miles northeast of Fort Snelling.
As officers were approaching, the BCA says, Stowers produced a handgun and pointed it at them. The statement says Officers Jaworski and Foy then opened fire and fatally shot Stowers.
The BCA says video of the incident was captured on police body cameras, along with a squad car camera, and a neighborhood security camera. Investigators also recovered a handgun from the location where Stowers was shot.
