Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Wisconsin man who was accused of attacking a woman in Rochester and attempting "to bite her eye out" has been sentenced to nearly 2 years in prison.

43-year-old Rory Deer earlier admitted to a third-degree assault charge using a Norgaard plea, which is often utilized in criminal cases where the defendant admits to a crime but does not remember his or her actions due to alcohol and/or drug impairment.

The criminal complaint says the assault occurred in April 2020 near the Zumbro Valley Health Center in southeast Rochester. Rochester police reported the victim, who was 41 years old at the time, was inside her car when Deer allegedly wrapped num-chuks around her neck and bit her face near one of her eyes.

The court document says Deer fled on foot after the woman began screaming. Rochester police located him nearby and took him into custody.''

The victim's statement to police indicated she lived in La Crescent and Deer had called her from La Crosse seeking a ride to Rochester so he could "detoxify." The police report on the assault says she told the investigating officers that Deer had taken some meth before meeting with her and drank a bottle of gin during the ride to Rochester.
