Minnesota Teen Drowns in Wisconsin Kayaking Accident
Update: Minnesota Teen Who Drowned in Wisconsin Identified
Cumberland, WI (KROC-AM News)- A Minnesota teenager lost his life while kayaking in western Wisconsin over the weekend.

A news release issued by the Baron County Sheriff’s Department says the deadly incident occurred shortly after 12:30 on Saturday afternoon. Dispatch had received multiple 911 calls regarding screams for help.
Deputies learned two people kayaking on Kirby Lake, which is about eight miles northwest of Cumberland, WI, were in the water after their kayaks overtuned.
17-Year-Old Minnesota Boy Dies in Drowning on Western Wisconsin Lake
One of the kayakers, described as a 17-year-old boy, had not resurfaced. Multiple public safety agencies in the area rushed to the lake and began searching for the missing teenager.
After an initial search, first responders confirmed an image captured by sonar was the missing boy, the news release says.
Divers entered the water and brought the teenager to the surface where life-saving measures began, according to authorities. The teen was airlifted to a hospital in Minnesota for life saving care.
On Sunday the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office informed the Baron County Sheriff’s Department that the 17-year-old had passed away, the news release says.
His name has not been released, however authorities have said the teen was from Minnesota. The drowning remains under investigation.
