Rochester Man Accused of Hitting Police Officer With Broken Cane, Spitting in Face of Other Officer During Arrest
A Rochester police officer was speaking to the subject of an unrelated trespassing call in the vestibule of the 3rd St. Southwest parking ramp around 12:15 Wednesday morning when a man, later identified as 32-year-old Mahamed Adan Abikar, entered the vestibule.
The officer saw Abikar holding what was later determined to be the bottom half of a broken cane and observed what appeared to be dried blood on Abikar’s hand.
After briefly speaking with the trespass subject, Abikar swung the partial cane at the officer, striking him in the head, the charges say.

He swung the object a second time, but the officer blocked the blow, pinned Abikar to the wall and took him to the ground, the court document says. A second officer responded to the scene and assisted the first officer with handcuffing Abikar.
A third officer arrived as the other two officers were walking Abikar towards a squad car. The third officer unlocked the door and Abikar began to try and pull away from police, the complaint states.
Abikar stopped and spit into the face of the third officer as one of the other officers began searching him, according to the complaint.
Abikar has been charged with two felony counts of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and is being held in the Olmsted County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Court records indicate Abikar was charged last September in two cases involving an attack on law enforcement at the Olmsted County Jail and at a court hearing. Those cases are still pending.
Abikar was also convicted of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer in a 2022 Olmsted County case, according to court records.
