RPD Makes Arrests in Drug Investigation Linked to Shelters
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police today announced the arrests of a man and a woman as part of what a department spokesperson described as a proactive narcotics operation.
According to Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson, investigators served a warrant and made arrests tied to an ongoing drug investigation connected to The Landing and The Salvation Army—two downtown organizations that provide services to individuals experiencing homelessness.
The two people taken into custody were identified as 56-year-old Shannon Johnson of Rochester and 55-year-old Veronica Vermaanen. Both are expected to face third-degree drug sale charges.
A news release from the department states that officers also located additional narcotics and other evidence related to the investigation. More arrests are anticipated.
“This operation demonstrates the Rochester Police Department’s dedication to combating the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics and the harm often associated with it,” said Police Chief Jim Franklin. “We will not tolerate the illegal drug activity that threatens the safety of our community.”
The news release did not specify which drugs were involved but emphasized that the enforcement action reflects the department’s “continued commitment to reducing deadly overdoses and drug-related crime in our community.”
