Balaton, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in southwestern Minnesota have identified the victim of a deadly farming related incident earlier this week.

The Murray County Sheriff's Office says deputies and other emergency responders were sent to a farm about 5 miles southwest of the town of Balaton around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of a person completely submerged in grain. A news release says 48-year-old Bruce Andrew Larson of a rural Balaton was extricated from a grain bin and lifesaving measures were attempted, but they were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's office says investigators were told that Larson had entered the grain bin to install some additional grain handling equipment when he became submerged in grain and was unable to escape.

Balaton is a small community of about 650 residents located approximately 10 miles south of Marshall.
