Victims of West Wisconsin Crash Identified as Rochester Area Men
Nelson, WI (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in western Wisconsin have identified the victims of a multi-vehicle crash last Friday as two men from the Rochester area.
The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office is reporting that the deadly incident occurred shortly after 10:30 AM about a mile south of Nelson across the Mississippi River from Wabasha. The two victims were on motorcycles that were struck by a pickup truck that crossed over the center line on Highway 35.
The Sheriff's Office says 59-year-old Mark Holzer of Pine Island and 59-year-old Brian Shank of Chatfield were killed in the crash. The obituary for Holzer indicates the two men were best friends and that a joint "celebration of life" for both victims will take place on Saturday afternoon at the Winona County Fairgrounds in Holzer's hometown of St. Charles.
A third motorcycle was also struck by the pickup truck but the motorcyclist escaped with only minor injuries. The pickup driver was not hurt.
Officials say the deadly crash remains under investigation.
