Iowa is getting in the national spotlight just in time for summer.

We're planning summer road trips and if you're looking to visit some of the nation's best waterparks, you won't have to go far.

USA Today 10Best released their list of the Top 10 Outdoor Waterparks For 2024 and an Iowa spot has made the list! The way the list works is this: a panel of industry experts nominate their favorite waterparks then readers vote on which ones they love.

Coming in at number 5 on the list: Lost Island Waterpark in Waterloo!

Iowa's biggest waterpark is no stranger to the list, having ranked #3 last year on USA Today's list, according to Des Moines Register. Wailua Kapua at Lost Island is one of the world's only hydromagnetic water coasters. TripAdvisor also named the waterpark one of the nation's best back in 2016.

There are 11 different waterslides with multiple thrill levels. The Lost Souls Falls drops you at a rate of 28 feet per second. Molokinin Crater has a 60-foot funnel. But there's also the park's lazy river, Kailahi River. Mermaids have also been spotted around Lost Island.

Lost Island opens for the summer season on May 31st, with their closing weekend on August 25th & 26th. Their hours will be 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. They also have a land theme park on the grounds, with 9 rollercoasters.

Ready to go? You can get more details about tickets, times, and events going on at Lost Island this summer on their website.
